  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced enhances flavor with a robust aroma
  • 1 cup Ketchup provides sweetness and moisture
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce adds umami depth
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar balances acidity and adds sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard yellow or Dijon, for a subtle tang
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Powder adds a gentle kick and warmth
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt to taste, enhances overall flavor
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper for a mild heat
  • 4 pieces Hamburger Buns soft and fluffy, for serving

Instructions

  • 1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and break it into smaller pieces as it cooks. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • 2. Drain excess fat from the skillet, leaving a bit for flavor.
  • 3. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  • 4. Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  • 5. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  • 6. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • 7. Prepare hamburger buns, toasting if desired.
  • 8. Taste the filling and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • 9. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Add optional toppings if desired.
  • 10. Place the top half of the bun on each serving and enjoy warm!

Notes

Sloppy Joes can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
