Ingredients

Tostada Shells

  • 8 pieces Tostada shells Store-bought or homemade by frying corn tortillas.

Refried Beans

  • 1 can Refried beans Canned for convenience or homemade.

Fresh Toppings

  • 2 cups Shredded lettuce Romaine or iceberg, washed and dried.
  • 1 cup Diced tomatoes Use ripe, flavorful tomatoes.
  • 1 medium Avocado Ripe, sliced or as guacamole.
  • 1 cup Shredded cheese Cheddar or queso fresco.
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream Can substitute with Greek yogurt.
  • 1/4 cup Fresh cilantro Chopped, added just before serving.
  • to taste Hot sauce For added heat.

Instructions

  • Prepare tostada shells by frying corn tortillas in oil until golden brown and crispy, or bake store-bought shells as per package instructions.
  • Warm the refried beans in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally until heated through.
  • Spread a layer of warm refried beans onto each tostada shell.
  • Add a layer of shredded lettuce on top of the beans.
  • Sprinkle diced tomatoes over the lettuce.
  • Slice the avocado and arrange on top of the tomatoes.
  • Add a layer of shredded cheese on top.
  • Top each tostada with a dollop of sour cream.
  • Sprinkle with fresh cilantro and drizzle with hot sauce before serving.
