Simple Homemade Marinara Sauce

Ingredients

Fresh Tomatoes

  • 2 pounds Fresh Tomatoes (Roma or San Marzano) Blanched and peeled.

Garlic

  • 4-6 cloves Garlic, minced Adds aromatic flavor.

Olive Oil

  • 3 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil For sautéing garlic and enriching sauce.

Fresh Basil

  • 1 handful Fresh Basil Leaves Torn and added before serving.

Salt and Pepper

  • 1 teaspoon Salt To taste.
  • to taste Freshly Cracked Black Pepper To enhance flavors.

Crushed Red Pepper Flakes

  • 1/4 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes Optional for heat.

Instructions

  • Rinse the tomatoes under cool water. Blanch in boiling water for 1 minute, then transfer to ice water to peel.
  • Peel the tomatoes, remove the core, and chop into small chunks.
  • In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté minced garlic until fragrant and lightly golden.
  • Add chopped tomatoes to the pan, stirring to combine with garlic.
  • Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add crushed red pepper flakes if desired. Stir in torn basil leaves before serving.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste and serve over pasta, as a pizza base, or as a dipping sauce.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
