  • 1 stalk Celery Finely chopped.
  • 28 ounces Crushed Tomatoes Canned, for the sauce base.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil Extra virgin, for sautéing.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust to taste.
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black Pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 1 handful Fresh Basil Chopped, for garnish.

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  • Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  • Incorporate grated carrot and chopped celery, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  • Add ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks for about 7-10 minutes until browned.
  • Finely chop black garlic and add to the skillet, cooking for 2 minutes.
  • Pour in crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.
  • Season with salt and pepper, then bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Reduce heat to low and cook uncovered for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Adjust seasoning if necessary and stir in fresh basil just before serving.
  • Serve hot over pasta or as a filling for other dishes.

Notes

This sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
