Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare your baking dish by greasing it lightly with butter or cooking spray.
  • Wash the apples thoroughly under running water and pat them dry.
  • Core the apples, leaving the bottom intact to hold the filling.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Stir until well blended.
  • Fill each cored apple generously with the sugar-spice mixture.
  • Place the filled apples upright in the prepared baking dish.
  • Cut the butter into small pieces and place them on top of the filled apples.
  • Pour a few tablespoons of water into the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  • Bake for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  • Check for doneness by inserting a fork into one apple; they should be tender.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
  • Serve warm, drizzled with the sauce from the bottom of the dish.

Notes
