  • 2 large Onions Preferably yellow or sweet varieties.
  • 2 tablespoons Gochujang Fermented chili paste for spice and umami.
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter For richness and caramelization.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced for added flavor.
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt To taste.
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black Pepper Freshly cracked, to taste.
  • 2 tablespoons Green Onions Chopped, for garnish.

Instructions

  • Peel and slice the onions thinly. Mince the garlic and have all ingredients ready.
  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat until foamy.
  • Add the sliced onions to the skillet and stir to coat them in butter.
  • Cook the onions for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are translucent and soft.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Stir in the gochujang, mixing well with the onions and garlic.
  • Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 5 minutes to meld flavors.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste, adjusting as necessary.
  • Remove from heat once onions are tender and glossy.
  • Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with chopped green onions.
  • Serve warm as a side dish.

For variations, consider adding honey for sweetness or fresh chili for extra heat.
