Ingredients

Rice

  • 1 cup Long-Grain Basmati Rice Rinsed thoroughly to remove excess starch.

Saffron

  • 1/4 teaspoon Saffron Threads Steep in warm water or broth before adding.

Liquid

  • 2 cups Water or Vegetable Broth Broth enhances flavor.

Fat

  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil or Ghee Adds richness and flavor.

Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust according to taste.

Garnish

  • Fresh Herbs (Optional) Such as parsley or cilantro for garnish.

Instructions

  • Rinse 1 cup of long-grain basmati rice under cold running water. Soak in water for about 20 minutes, then drain well.
  • Prepare saffron infusion by steeping 1/4 teaspoon of saffron threads in 2 tablespoons of warm water or broth.
  • In a medium-sized pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil or ghee over medium heat for about 30 seconds.
  • Add the rinsed and drained basmati rice to the pot and stir gently to coat the grains in the oil or ghee, toasting for 2-3 minutes.
  • Pour in 2 cups of water or vegetable broth and add the saffron infusion along with 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir gently to combine.
  • Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then reduce heat to low and cover the pot. Simmer for 15-18 minutes without lifting the lid.
  • Turn off the heat and let the rice rest for 5-10 minutes with the lid on.
  • Remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat with a splash of water.
