Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour Provides structure and texture.
  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast Essential for fermentation.
  • 1.25 cups Warm Water Around 110°F to activate yeast.
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated Sugar Feeds the yeast and adds sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor and strengthens gluten.
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Adds richness and tenderness.
  • 1 large Egg Enriches the dough and adds moisture.

Instructions

  • 1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water and sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add melted butter and beaten egg.
  • 3. Pour the frothy yeast mixture into the well of dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • 4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • 5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  • 6. Punch down the dough, turn it out onto a floured surface, and divide into 8 equal portions.
  • 7. Shape each portion into a ball and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  • 8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) during the last 15 minutes of the second rise. Brush tops with melted butter.
  • 9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
  • 10. Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
