Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Peeled and slice the yams into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced yams with brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until the yams are evenly coated.
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or oil.
  • Pour the coated yams into the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly.
  • Add water to the dish.
  • Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  • Bake for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, remove the foil and stir the yams gently.
  • Return the dish to the oven, uncovered, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the yams are tender and caramelized.
  • Let the yams cool for a few minutes before serving.
