Instructions

  • 1. Wash the fresh tomatoes under cool running water, remove the stems, and cut them into quarters. Set aside.
  • 2. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
  • 3. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5 to 7 minutes until translucent.
  • 4. Add the minced garlic and stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • 5. Pour in the chopped tomatoes and stir to combine.
  • 6. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir to combine.
  • 7. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • 8. Stir in the fresh basil leaves and let simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  • 9. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Blend for a smoother texture if desired.
