  • 12 ounces Fresh Cranberries Look for firm, deep red berries.
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar Adjust to taste if you prefer less sweetness.
  • 1 cup Water Filtered water enhances taste but tap water works fine.

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Orange Zest Adds a citrusy twist.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon Enhances warmth without overpowering.

Instructions

  • Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or debris.
  • In a medium-sized saucepan, combine water and sugar. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  • Add the rinsed cranberries to the saucepan and bring to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until cranberries burst and sauce thickens.
  • If using, add orange zest and cinnamon during the last few minutes of cooking.
  • Remove from heat and let cool before transferring to a serving bowl.
  • Refrigerate until completely cool. Can be made a day in advance.

Notes

This sauce can be customized with spices or additional fruits. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
