Ingredients

Potatoes

  • 2 pounds Russet or Yukon Gold Potatoes Washed and peeled, sliced into thin rounds.

Cream

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Wash and peel the potatoes, then slice them into thin rounds, about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and stir to combine. Simmer gently for about 5 minutes.
  • Season the cream mixture with salt and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • In a greased baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes, pouring cream mixture and sprinkling cheese between layers.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
  • Let the gratin rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This dish also freezes well for up to 2 months.
