Instructions

  • Begin by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Once boiling, add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  • While the pasta cooks, heat the extra-virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant.
  • Add the cherry tomatoes and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Season with salt and black pepper. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes, or until the tomatoes begin to burst.
  • Once the pasta is cooked, reserve about 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta in a colander. Add the drained pasta directly to the skillet with the cherry tomato sauce.
  • Gently toss the pasta with the sauce, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time if needed to create a silky consistency.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the fresh basil. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • Serve the pasta hot, garnished with additional basil and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese if desired.
